Yesterday I shared about why Candice & I made an investment into a property earlier this year; it’s because it’s a Biblical principle to leave an inheritance for our children’s children. And because it is a Biblical principle, it only makes sense to apply it in our lives, you can read the first part of this Investment series here entitled Investing for the future.
I’ve always wanted to invest in Land. Low yields with low risk, but high returns over a longer period of time (atleast in India). But before we purchased this land, we burnt our fingers with other Quick-gain investments. Back then we were earning much lesser than what we do today and it really hurt our finances. It took time to recover from those losses, but it did not deter us from praying and making this wise investment.
Here three points I’ve learned along the way:
Most of the time, we are so consumed about the needs, wants, luxuries, problems, etc. in our own lives that we tend to lose sight of the generations ahead. Yes we should enjoy life to the fullest because God has blessed us. But, we also need to balance that out with a vision for the future generations. Ask yourself, what do we want to leave behind for our children’s children? Is it debt? Or may be photo’s of all the holidays we’ve been on? Perhaps closets of bags, shoes, designer wear and electronic gadgets? Don’t think our future generations would appreciate those things. It is far better to leave behind an inheritance which would actually help and add value in their generation.
Be it a relationship, healthy habit or financial, commitment will always be a challenge. Only when there is commitment will you be able to begin, pursue and press through till the end no matter what happens. If you want to make an investment it starts by making a conscious decision to do it, no matter what it takes or what may come your way. When you have a Vision for the future and combine that with an all-out Commitment, there would be no stopping you.
Start praying, make a plan, seek advice from someone you know who can help you, look at options. Start and get the ball rolling. Candice & I did not have the funds or provision when we decided to make this investment. But we did our homework ahead of time, then we set the goal that before the end of this year we should be able to invest on a land, all our financial decisions have revolved in that goal for sometime. Our savings, bonuses and extra income were all concentrated to that goal, when we finally found the land, we prayed, sought GOD’s heart, asked our parents, and when we found peace, we just invested on the land. It’s a very lengthy process but we started to do things about a year before this came to completion. So step out in faith and start somewhere.
Friends, perhaps you are from a family where debt has been a generational curse. Even if not, and no one else in your previous generation ever did anything like this. Today, you have a choice to change all that.
